Event Details

Maydena Adventure Camp is a 3-day kids camp focused on guided rides, coached skills sessions, bike games, nature walks and fun!

This program allows parents to drop their kids off each day and enjoy their stay in Maydena knowing their kids are riding, learning and having fun in a supervised and safe environment. The kids will experience a wide variety of activities that the Tasmanian wilderness has to offer.  The 3-day program will include, exploring Maydena’s world class mountain bike park, a bike maintenance course and nature walks through Russel Falls and the world heritage tall trees, amongst other games and activities.

For the Parents 

This weekend is designed to give parents the freedom to ride and explore while their kids are fully supervised by our  qualified and experienced guides. Kids can be dropped off between 9:00am-9:30am before the first shuttles, and picked up between 4:30pm-5:00pm after the last shuttle.

6-8 & 9-12

Ability Level

Maydena Adventure Camp caters to all children, from experienced riders to first time mountain bikers. The minimum experience required is: Kids must be comfortable riding a bicycle on paths and gravel roads. They must also be comfortable using their brakes, no mountain bike experience is required.

Equipment

  • Kids must have full face helmets, knee and elbow pads, gloves and closed toe shoes
  • Bikes must have two functional brakes with handle bar levers (no back pedal brakes)
  • Small back pack with water and extra warm clothes is reccomended

 

*Note – Bikes, pads and helmets will all be available for hire at Maydena Bike Park


Registration Includes:

  • Mountain Bike uplifts for 3 days of camp
  • Transport around Derwent Valley for bush walks and activities
  • Lunches, morning and afternoon snacks each day
  • Skills sessions with qualified instructors
  • Report card outlining skills achievements
  • Draw prizes at the end of the weekend

 

Optional Add-ons:

  • Helmet & pads hire – $20
  • Bike Hire – Hardtail – $50/day | Full Suspension – $79/day
  • Family Summit BBQ – $40/adult, $30/child

Camp Itinerary

 

Friday January 8th

9:00 to 9:30 – Sign in at GS and meet instructors.

9:30 to 10:00 – Welcome to Adventure Camp! – Introduction and short pedal on lower mountain skills area to divide into groups.

10:00 to 12:30 – Mountain Bike skills session #1 – Fundamentals for mountain biking

12:30 to 1:00 – Lunch at base canteen

1:00 to 3:00 – Explore Maydena Bike Park using shuttles

3:00 to 4:30 – Skills and bike games

4:30 to 5:00 – Pick up at base building

Saturday January 9th

9:00 to 9:30 – Sign in at GS and meet instructors.

9:30 to 12:00 – Mountain Bike skills session #2 – Bike Park 101

12:00 to 12:15 – Load bus and depart to Russell falls

12:30 to 1:00 – Picnic lunch at Mt. Field National Park

1:00 to 2:30 – Explore Russell Falls and Mt. Field National Park

3:00 to 4:30 – Pump track and skills park sessions

4:30 to 5:00 –Pick up at base building

Sunday January 10th

9:00 to 9:30 – Sign in at GS and meet instructors.

9:30 to 9:45 – Depart to World Heritage Tall Trees forest

10:00 to 11:45 – Explore Tall Tree’s walk and Styx River

11:45 to 12:00 – Depart back to Maydena

12:30 to 1:00 – Lunch at Maydena Bike Park

1:00 to 3:30 – Mountain Bike skills session #3 – Explore the park!

3:30 to 4:00 – Progress reports handed out

4:00 to 4:30 – Draw prizes at base cafe

4:30 to 5:00 – Sign out
