General Manager

Employment Type – Full Time

Maydena Bike Park (MBP) is Australia’s largest commercial bike park, and one of the world’s most recognised mountain bike destinations. Moving into its 6th year of operation, MBP remains a 100% family-owned company, with a core focus of contnually striving to grow and evolve all aspects of the operation. MBP hosts close to 100km of world-class trails, restaurants, bar, bike hire, retail, bike school, and two uplift services. MBP is actively developing a range of accommodation offerings, along with a number of other adventure and eco-tourism activities.

In its first five years of operation, MBP has hosted three national championships events, a UCI World Cup, and will in 2024 host Red Bull Hardline- the super bowl of downhill mountain bike racing.

For the past five years, the day-to-day operation of the park has been managed by outgoing General Manager, Rhys Ellis. While Rhys will retain an active role in the business, at the end of the 23/24 summer, he is stepping aside to pursue his own personal projects. We are seeking to bring on board a new General Manager to work collaboratively with our directors to drive MBP forward in new and exciting directions. This is an incredibly exciting time for the park, with major infrastructure projects underway, and immense growth across all aspects of the operation.

The General Manager role directly reports to our Managing Director, Simon French. Simon plays a significant role in the strategic direction of the park, also assisting in trail planning and development, and major events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Maydena Bike Park
  • Assist in strategic direction and decision-making
  • Managing recruitment
  • Supporting the management team in staff inductions and training
  • Assist in the implementation of marketing strategies and activities
  • Assist in event planning and delivery, including major global events
  • Assist the management team responsible for managing multiple outlets (including but not limited to; guest services, retail, repair, rentals, hospitality, and bike patrol)
  • Manage multiple high-level relationships with commercial partners and key stakeholders
  • Develop and manage operational budgets

Required Qualifications, Attributes & Experience:

  • Passion for the sport of mountain biking
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a relevant management role/s
  • Capacity to work in Australia long-term (visa assistance can be provided for the right candidate)

Desirable Qualifications, Attributes & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in business management or related field
  • 3+ years of experience working in the mountain bike industry
  • Experience working in a small business environment
  • Strong communication skills, including strong written communication
  • Experience in customer-facing role/s
  • Strong riding ability (black diamond or above ability level preferred)
  • Marketing/PR qualification/experience

Uplift Bus Driver

Employment Type – Casual

Our Uplift bus drivers are a critical part of the Maydena Bike Park team. Responsible for getting our riders to the trails safely, our Uplift driver team have the most contact with our guests throughout the day. We are looking for fun, responsible drivers who enjoy getting to know new people. An interest in mountain biking and outdoor activities is an asset for this role.

Qualifications Required:

  • Personal Passenger Vehicle Ancillary Certificate (PPV).
  • Working with Vulnerable People accreditation.
  • Light-rigid License (preferred)
  • Minimum 19 years of age.

Pro Patroller

Employment Type – Casual

MBP is seeking additional casual Bike Patrollers for the 23/2024 Season. Our bike patrol team provides First Aid and extrication support for our day-to-day operations, as well for events (as part of a larger team).

We also use our Volunteer Patrol Program as an opportunity to trial and learn more about this position, before progressing into a Pro Patrol role. Please reach out for a Volunteer role initially if this progression interests you.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Wilderness First Aid or equivalent / higher (i.e. ASPA, Bachelor or Nursing / Paramedicine). Currency is preferred however there may be potential to refresh with MBP.
  • Current Driver’s Licence (any State / Territory acceptable).

Physical Capabilities:

  • An intermediate to advanced level of mountain bike skill, enabling you to comfortably access most blue trails.
  • Sufficient fitness to enable you to walk over steep terrain, including carrying or managing heavy and/or awkward loads.

Volunteer Patroller

MBP is looking for enthusiastic mountain bikers with medical or wilderness first aid training to join our re-designed volunteer patrol program. This is a unique opportunity to ride and explore Maydena Bike Park while also developing skills in hands-on patient assessment, management of trauma patients and extrication from mountain bike trails.

If you are a Paramedic or Nurse seeking to expand your exposure to trauma, a Paramedic or Nursing student, or an outdoor guide with a Wilderness First Aid seeking clinical exposure, this opportunity might be for you!

We aim to develop a team of Volunteers to assist with some of our exciting upcoming events, including the first round of the Enduro World Series. If you are unable to make the events there are plenty of day-to-day opportunities throughout the season as well.

This role also provides a unique opportunity to learn about the Pro Patroller roles, and we regularly recruit Pro Patrollers from the Volunteer Program.

Line Cook
